Board of Trustees Retreat Update #4: Communication & Transparency

This is the last in a series of four updates from our April 24th Spring Retreat.

When the new Board took office last year, we immediately began working with staff to open communications with citizens.  As a result we launched our awesome website that includes what I consider to be its best new attribute - the “Transparency” tab.  From here you can view and download Agendas & Packets, Financial Reports, Streaming Videos of meetings; quick links to Public Notices; Development Activity Reports & Maps and our new “Open Budget” application.

The website is just one way our talented and award-winning communications staff makes it is easy for you to stay connected with Erie Town Government.

But what if you could have access to Town stuff anytime - anywhere?  Well, now you can.

During our retreat, staff previewed the new official mobile application for the Town of Erie.  It’s called “Erie Stuff.”  A Newsflash will be released today with details for how to download and use it – and I wanted to be the first to let you know.  (One of the perks as Mayor!)

The app is loaded with features including a new interactive Parks & trails map –very cool and extremely helpful.

When I ask a question – I want to be sure I’m asking the right person so I know I’m getting the correct answer.  Erie Stuff gives you the opportunity to do just that.  The service request feature lets you submit a request or ask a question about the Town.  In return, staff will make sure that the right person delivers the correct response in a timely manner.

And to that point – I want to talk about the people behind the technology.  Not the people who developed the app, but the people who will be answering your questions and replying to your service request.  We are fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who care about you and our community.  We did not hire extra staff to manage this new app.  Rather, each department has assigned individual team members to help resolve your concern or get you an answer to your question.

Thank you in advance to Sandy, Katie, Sarah and Kris.  Most likely when you hit “submit” one of these four individuals will be taking care of you.

Erie is growing.  Every day we welcome someone new to our community.  And every day there is something new going on.   At the start of the new year I made an effort to practice gratitude.  When I consider just how lean staffing levels are at Town Hall; and when I consider how much we ask of our staff; and knowing the high level of service they deliver – I am truly grateful.

I have often said that communication would be the cornerstone of your new Board of Trustees.  Every day we try to deliver on that promise.  You can connect with us through email, phone calls, meetings, Notify Me, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Engage Erie, Channel 8, streaming video – and now through Erie Stuff!
