The 390 acres, around Town Center (the intersection of Erie Parkway and County Line Road) was recently studied by the Urban Land Institute. Their findings show this location is prime for becoming a unique and thriving place with the right mix of retail, office, residential, civic, park and open space uses. The community is invited to mutually author the making of Town Center.

What is a Design Charrette?

A charrette is an intensive planning session where residents, designers and others collaborate on a vision for development. A charrette provides a forum for ideas and offers the unique advantage of giving immediate comments to designers. Charrettes encourage the participation of anyone who is interested in the making of Town Center; developers, business interests, government officials and residents.

Everyone who participates is a mutual author of the plan!

In a charrette the team of designers set up a full working office space. Formal and informal workshops are held throughout the charrette and updates to the master plan are presented periodically.

Who is DPZ?

In August of 2019, the Board approved a contract with DPZ CoDesign, one of the world's leading planning and design firms to develop a master plan for Erie’s Town Center (the intersection of Erie Parkway and County Line Road). A charrette will be conducted and led led by DPZ’s founding partner, Andres Duany.

DPZ CoDesign applies their expertise through a time and cost efficient “Collaborative Community Design” process that engages all interested parties to produce designs that reflect the community’s vision, and the associated regulatory documents to facilitate that vision.

This work will address several of the Board’s 2019 Work Plan priorities, including the Unified Development Code update, economic development, place making and community engagement.

Town staff have been working with property owners, representatives from adjacent neighborhoods, developers, the Urban Land Institute Technical Advisory Panel and others to determine how best to create a thriving area with a unique sense of place, including the right mix of retail, office, residential, civic, park and open space uses that will thrive in Erie’s market
