Erie's Four Corners
On August 13, the Board of Trustees approved a contract with DPZ CoDesign to develop a master plan for Erie’s Four Corners (the intersection of Erie Parkway and County Line Road). Town staff have been working with property owners, representatives from adjacent neighborhoods, developers, the Urban Land Institute Technical Advisory Panel (ULI TAP) and others to determine how best to create a thriving area with a unique sense of place, including the right mix of retail, office, residential, civic, park and open space uses that will thrive in Erie’s market.

This work will address several of the Board’s 2019 Work Plan priorities, including the UDC Update, Economic Development, Place Making and Community Engagement. DPZ CoDesign is an internationally recognized firm with decades of experience. They apply their expertise through a time and cost efficient “Collaborative Community Design” process that engages all interested parties to produce designs that reflect the community’s vision, and the associated regulatory documents to facilitate that vision. Fall Clean-Up

Save the Date: Annual Fall Clean-Up on Saturday, September 14! The Town of Erie Department of Public Works is partnering with area businesses to assist residents in disposing of unwanted household items, some electronics, building materials, yard waste, unwanted scrap metal, unwanted document shredding and safely recycling prescription drugs during the 14th Annual Fall Clean-Up.

Police

National Night Out was hosted by members of the Erie Police Department on Tuesday, August at the Erie Community Park. Administrative Manager Sarah Lambert, along with Sergeant Kevin Jamison took the lead with the event.

Approximately 600-650 community members attended. Special guests included Mayor Jennifer Carroll, Trustee Scott Charles, Trustee Bill Gippe, Town Administrator Malcom Fleming and McGruff.

Economic Development

Last week, on August 6, in efforts to better understand the emerging hemp industry nationwide and its activities in Erie, the Town hosted a Hemp Education Day for Staff.

Two local hemp extractor businesses spoke on subjects pertaining to the industry, safety regulations and legislation, extraction processes and the differences between hemp and marijuana. Although this is a fairly new industry to Erie, the Town and its partners are taking a proactive, collaborative stance to learn more about the emerging trends and ensure we are proceeding in a safe manner. Parks and Recreation

Fall program guides have arrived! Registration for Erie Residents began Monday, August 12.

The Erie Community Center annual maintenance is just around the corner. The ECC will be closed beginning on Monday, August 19- September 8. ECC members can use the Bob L. Forestry staff has been working on nursery expansion and watering newly planted trees.

Open Space staff has been striping (mowing, edging, trimming, and blowing) trail system.

New partnership working with Trust for Public Lands to assist with trail connectivity project.

The ECC was voted a Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite, which according to Nextdoor, only 1% of businesses achieve!
