Introduce yourself and tell us what you do for the Erie Police Department
Ofc. Slavin: Hi, I'm Justin Slavin with the Erie Police Department.
Ofc. Bastres: Hi, I'm Ian Bastres with the Erie Police Department.
How long have you been a Police Officer? How long with the Erie Police Department?
Ofc. Slavin: I have been a Police Officer for a year and half. I have been with Erie for about 7 months now.
Ofc. Bastres: I have been a Police Officer for about 11 months in Erie, CO.
Why did you want to be in law enforcement?
Ofc. Slavin: I got into law enforcement to help people and to be there when they need someone, when no one else may come.
Ofc. Bastres: It's always been something I wanted to pursue and it seemed like an interesting career field.
Tell us about an average day for you at work
Ofc. Slavin and Ofc. Bastres: An average day would be making traffic stops and talking to as many people as we can out in the community and getting to know them. When we first come in, we attend briefing and then start taking calls from dispatch.
When you aren’t working, what do you do for fun?
Ofc. Slavin: I am either working out, going hiking, spending time with my wife and family or reading a book. I stay pretty busy.
Ofc. Bastres: I love fishing and hunting. I like to work out as well and spend time with my wife.
Which neighborhoods are you currently assigned for the Neighborhood Officer Program?
Ofc. Slavin and Ofc. Bastres: We are assigned to the Northeast neighborhoods.
What do you enjoy most about your job in Erie?
Ofc. Slavin: I love the people of Erie. I grew up in Erie.
Ofc. Bastres: I like the smaller community and I grew up in Erie as well, so I know a lot of people here. Most people you meet on the street are pretty friendly. I enjoy it.
