STAR Award Presented to Detective Brittany Wilson

STAR Award

During Tuesday night’s meeting, Mayor Jennifer Carroll presented Town of Erie Detective Brittany Wilson with a STAR Award for Outstanding Achievement.  Detective Wilson was recognized for demonstrating exceptional service and performance for work completed on behalf of the Town and its residents. Detective Wilson was the lead on an armed robbery case that occurred in June at 1st Bank, located off of HWY 7.  Due to her tenacity and dedication the suspect was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.  On Monday, August 13 Safe Streets Task Force arrested the suspect.  Detective Wilson’s work is truly exceptional.  She is a dedicated professional who along with her fellow officers keep Erie safe.  View more information about this case here.

BACKGROUND: The STAR Award has been created to recognize and express appreciation for services rendered by Town employees who demonstrate exceptional service and/or performance in one or more of the following categories: Customer Service, Safety, Creativity, Teamwork and Outstanding Achievement.

Board Approves Ordinance
Prohibiting Weapons in Town Owned Buildings

The Board of Trustees approved an ordinance on Tuesday night that will prohibit the open carry of a dangerous weapon within any Town owned building or indoor facility.  This new ordinance reads as follows:

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to openly carry any deadly weapon within any town owned building or indoor facility, or any building or indoor facility leased or occupied by the town, or any department or agency thereof.

B. Nothing herein shall be deemed to affect or impair in any way the authority of any private or public property owner other than the town to prohibit the carrying of deadly weapons into or upon other public or private property.

C. This section shall not apply to any peace officer, as defined at Colorado Revised Statutes 16-2.5-101, as amended, when carrying a weapon in conformance with the policy of the employing agency as provided at Colorado Revised Statutes 16-2.5-101(2), as amended.

D. This section is declared to be a criminal violation. Upon conviction the penalties set forth at Sec. 1-4-4.B. of this Code shall apply.

Approved on the second reading, the effective date of this ordinance is September 21, 2018.

2018 Fall Clean-Up

13th Annual Fall Clean-Up Reminder

The Town of Erie Department of Public Works is partnering with a variety of vendors including Front Range Landfill, ARC Thrift Stores, Goodwill Industries of Denver and others during the 13th Annual Town of Erie Fall Clean-Up.  Residents will have access to donate household items to ARC, some electronics to Goodwill, recycle metal items and participate in a medication take-back program, and dispose of unwanted items at the Front Range Landfill.  The Fall Clean-Up will be on September 8, 2018.
