Board Approves Ordinance
Prohibiting Weapons in Town Owned Buildings
The Board of Trustees approved an ordinance on Tuesday night that will prohibit the open carry of a dangerous weapon within any Town owned building or indoor facility. This new ordinance reads as follows:
A. It shall be unlawful for any person to openly carry any deadly weapon within any town owned building or indoor facility, or any building or indoor facility leased or occupied by the town, or any department or agency thereof.
B. Nothing herein shall be deemed to affect or impair in any way the authority of any private or public property owner other than the town to prohibit the carrying of deadly weapons into or upon other public or private property.
C. This section shall not apply to any peace officer, as defined at Colorado Revised Statutes 16-2.5-101, as amended, when carrying a weapon in conformance with the policy of the employing agency as provided at Colorado Revised Statutes 16-2.5-101(2), as amended.
D. This section is declared to be a criminal violation. Upon conviction the penalties set forth at Sec. 1-4-4.B. of this Code shall apply.
Approved on the second reading, the effective date of this ordinance is September 21, 2018.
