Robbery Suspect Arrested
On June 15, 2018, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Erie Police Officers responded to 1st Bank, located at 1779 HWY 7, on a report of an armed robbery. The suspect entered the bank and pointed a firearm at the staff as he demanded money. The suspect left the scene in a black Hyundai. Video footage showed the suspect was wearing some sort of facial mask which disguised his appearance. Based off the partial plate, Erie Police Detective Wilson was able to determine a similar vehicle was stolen from a rental car company in Denver a couple of hours prior to the armed robbery.
The stolen vehicle believed to be involved in this robbery was later discovered abandoned. Detective Wilson collected evidence from the vehicle and submitted it to the FBI for analysis.
On July 23, 2018, Detective Wilson submitted an arrest warrant for Billy Ray Hendrix. Hendrix has a lengthy criminal history including bank robbery, aggravated robbery, robbery, motor vehicle theft, assaults, drugs, obstructing police, theft, domestic violence and parole violations. The Erie Police Department and the Safe Streets Task Force began actively attempting to locate Hendrix.
On August 13, 2018, Hendrix was arrested by the Safe Streets Task Force.
