Erie Police Remind Residents to Close Garages and Lock Car Doors!
This morning, May 17, 2018, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Erie Police Department was dispatched to a ‘loud bang’ and possible traffic accident in the area of Telleen Avenue and Jasper Drive. Officers quickly arrived in the area and made contact with a 29 year old male and an 18 year old female leaving the scene. Officers determined the vehicle involved in the accident had been reported stolen out of Longmont on May 15, 2018.
During their investigation, the officers learned the suspects had entered a garage in the Eire Commons neighborhood and stole multiple items from the vehicles parked inside the garage. The garage door on the residence was left open overnight and the vehicles inside the garage were left unlocked. Items taken included a purse which contained credit cards and personal ID cards. The two suspects have been charged with several charges including: 2nd Degree Burglary, Identity Theft, Criminal Trespass and Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft.
The Erie Police Department would like to remind residents to close and secure garage doors and not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle. If possible, take valuables inside with you or lock them in your trunk. Remember to keep your car doors locked even if they are parked inside your garage, and if parking outside, remember to park in well-lit areas. Do NOT make it easy for a thief to steal from you! If you have been a victim of a crime or see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood please contact Boulder County Dispatch at 303-441-4444 to have an Erie Police Officer respond to investigate, or 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
