Park Plans Prioritized

In a demonstration of support for the priority the Erie community places on our parks, trails and Open Space, this week the Town of Erie Board of Trustees approved over a half million dollars in contracts for the master planning of four projects, including Coal Creek Park; the Linear Trail Corridor; the final phase of Erie Community Park and the Schofield Farm/Strieby Open Space.

According to Town of Erie Parks and Recreation Director Farrell Buller, these projects are a direct result of the recently adopted Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails (PROST) Master Plan.  “As we continue to build our community, our emphasis on quality recreational opportunities and amenities is in complete alignment with why people choose to call Erie home in the first place,” Buller said.

Buller emphasized that similar to the PROST process, a vital component of each of these projects is stakeholder outreach and engagement.  “There will be a public process to ensure the design of the parks addresses the community’s needs,” Buller said.

ERIE’S PARKS, TRAILS AND
OPEN SPACE PORTFOLIO:

Parks: 135 Acres (Town-maintained)

Trails: 64.5 Miles

Open Space: 1,300 Acres

Not only does the Town have a robust parks, trails and Open Space portfolio, but in fact 99% of Erie residents have walkable access to a recreational opportunity.  “All of these positive indicators point to the Town’s commitment to building a good distribution of parks and a well-developed trail system.  And stay tuned - there’s plenty more to come,” Buller said.

UPCOMING: The Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider an agreement for the 7 acre Star Meadows Neighborhood Park Master Plan at their May 9, 2017 meeting.  This park is located in the Flatiron Meadows Neighborhood and shares the property line with a new Boulder Valley K-8 School.
