Erie Named One of America's Best Cities for Global Trade
Erie’s Skilled Workforce Ranks in Top 10

Erie, Colorado has been named by Global Trade magazine as one of “America’s Best Cities for Global Trade.” This distinction places Erie on the magazine’s list of cities companies should consider when looking for a great business environment, a well-educated or skilled workforce, a globally minded city or assistance with the site-selection process. According to Global Trade, Erie ranks as one of the Top 10 cities for “Skilled Workforce.”

According to Global Trade senior editor Steve Lowery, “We chose our cities not based on any single metric such as GDP or export totals, but rather based on a city-by-city analysis of what each is doing to excel in our categories of interest. We find this to be a more personalized approach that highlights tangible economic development,” Lowery said.

Population: 21,420
Unemployment: 3.4 percent
Leading Industries: Education, Technology

Nearly 50 percent of Erie’s residents are age 34 or younger and more than 50 percent have a college degree. It enjoys easy access to such economic hubs as Boulder (15 miles away) and Denver (27 miles) and has been growing at an impressive pace since 2000, when the population was 1,258 to 23,000 today. Growth has slowed only relatively during that period, with estimates the city will have well over 30,000 residents by 2025.
