Town of Erie Police Department

Town of Erie Police Department Introductions

Over the past several months we’ve been introducing you to some of the men and women of the Town of Erie Police Department.  These introductions are informal and brief – so whether you are new to Erie or have lived here for years, we hope you’ll take just a moment to get to know us a little better.  And next time you see us out in the community – be sure to say “hi” to our officers.  We are only strangers once.

It is an honor to serve you and the entire Erie community.  Thank you!

Town of Erie Police Department Introductions
Sergeant Kevin Jamison & Sergeant Rob Vesco

Introduce yourselves

Kevin: Sergeant Kevin Jamison
Rob: Sergeant Rob Vesco

How long have you been a Police Officer?  How long with the Erie Police Department?

Kevin: 18 total years as a Police Officer, with 17 of them at the Erie Police Department.
Rob: 14 total years as a Police Officer, and similar to Kevin all but 1 year has been with the Erie Police Department.

Why did you want to be in law enforcement?

Kevin: As a kid, in elementary school I always remembered I wanted to be a cop.  I always looked up to any officers I met. I also remember when playing as a kid, I always had to be the cop.  As I got older, I knew it was a passion of mine, which led me to pursue going to the Police Academy.
Rob: When I was a kid growing up in Thornton, I remember there were Police Officers in my neighborhood handing out Rockies baseball cards. It was such a positive experience and one that has stuck with me since. I knew from then on I wanted to be a police officer.

Tell us about an average day for you at work

Kevin: Like most of my coworkers, no day is “average” for us.  But, my duties as a Sergeant include overseeing the detectives in Investigations and the School Resource Officer.  I review all of the reports and assist with any investigations.  As needed, I will fill in as a Patrol Supervisor.  I also am on the Critical Incident Response Team in Weld County.
Rob: I try to spend most of my day out and about interacting with the public.  I conduct business checks, will go out on bike patrol, and respond to service calls.  I also take time to approve reports while in the office.

When you aren’t working, what do you do for fun?

Kevin: I enjoy being outside.  Whether it is fishing, 4-Wheeling, barbecuing or working on something, most of my spare time is spent outdoors.
Rob: When I’m not working, you can usually find me spending time with my family and friends.  I am an avid hunter and love spending time outdoors.  I enjoy brewing beer at home to enjoy with my neighbors and have also gotten into gardening.

What neighborhood are you assigned to?

Kevin: As a Sergeant, we are not assigned to any specific neighborhood, but we are here to assist any officers with their neighborhood and any questions which may arise.
Rob:  I too am not assigned any specific neighborhood as a Sergeant.  I am available to help patrol all areas of Town, assist residents with concerns, and participate in designated community events and meetings.

What do you love about working in Erie?

Kevin: I really do love working for Erie and the Erie Police Department.  I enjoy working with all of the Town employees and engaging with the citizens.  It has been fun to watch the Town grow, and I am a big supporter of the direction the Town is going.
Rob: The citizens!  Everyone we meet is so approachable, always shaking our hands and always eager to help us when needed.  I also love working for this growing department, I see so much potential and room for professional growth here.
