ECC Maintenance Closure Aug. 29-Sept. 5

The Erie Community Center is closed for annual maintenance from now through Monday, Sept. 5. For your safety, there is no public access during this time. To provide recreation access during this time we have partnered with two neighboring agencies: Bob L. Burger Recreation Center and Carbon Valley Recreation. All ECC users may access either facility by simply presenting an ECC membership card to the front desk staff.

Work to be completed at the ECC during this annual maintenance includes deep cleaning of the facility, new carpet in common areas, new pool blinds, acoustic upgrades to the Cycle Garage, and new fitness equipment. Staff look forward to seeing you when the Center re-opens at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6!

Fall Clean-up Events are Coming

Now is the time to start collecting your waste for recycling and discarding in time for the Fall Clean-Up Event! This year, the Town is offering even more opportunities for hard-to-recycle items and safe disposal of hazardous waste. On Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Leon A. Wurl Service Center there is the opportunity for metal, electronics, paint, battery, fertilizer, and more to be recycled for free! And for the week of Sept. 10-17 the landfill will be accepting one free load of materials to be dropped off by just showing your water bill and identification – no voucher needed! Visit www.erieco.gov/CleanUp for more details.

Request for Proposals Now Open for a Single Hauler Contract

The Town recently posted a Request for Proposals inviting waste hauling companies to apply for a possible new contract to serve areas in Town that are not currently covered by an HOA waste contract. These areas include Old Town, Erie Airpark, and Northridge. The RFP closes on Sept. 30, 2022. The Town is investigating this because research indicates a single hauler approach would be safer and less disruptive for neighborhoods (by reducing the number of trash trucks driving through), improve customer service for all customers (by requiring the selected hauler to meet specific customer service standards), reduce the price of trash collection while still expanding service options to include recycling and composting (due to economies of scale and coordinated billing), and result in less trash going to the landfill (from the effects of Pay-As-You-Throw pricing and influencing people to increase recycling and composting).

The Board of Trustees will consider these issues and whether the results of the RFP demonstrate it would reduce the price of trash collection. If the Board approves awarding a contract, the selected hauling company will be allotted enough time to organize pickup logistics and bins for the new service areas. If approved, the new service would begin January 2023. Visit the Town’s webpage for more information about what “Single Hauler” means and the benefits of such a model.

Non-Emergency Police Services

Did you know there are three counties that overlay the boundaries for the Town of Erie? Don’t worry – you don’t need to remember three different numbers when you need to report a non-emergency issue. Currently, the Town contracts with Boulder County as the Public Safety Answering Point for police/public safety related calls. This means no matter where in incorporated Erie you live, work, learn or play, if you need non-emergency police services, you should call Boulder County Communications at 303-441-4444. As always, in an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
