UPDATE: Notice of Spill Report
Town staff met with Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) investigators Nikki Graber and Kari Brown to collect preliminary soil samples and oversee operator response to the KP Kauffman flowline release north of WRC 10 and east of WCR 7.
The off-location flowline, which transports a combined mixture of produced water, oil, and natural gas from two wells was found by the operator to have ruptured, with produced liquids observed at the surface on Feb. 23. Since the discovery of the rupture, excavations to uncover the flowline and stop the release have been undertaken, and contaminated soil is actively being hauled off-site for disposal.
It is not known at this time the volume of liquids released, the extent of contamination in the subsurface, whether groundwater has been impacted, or the total duration of the release. Preliminary investigation reporting is required within 10 days of discovery and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
