Town of Erie Welcomes Stefanie Furman as Finance Director
The Town of Erie is pleased to announce Stefanie Furman’s appointment as Finance Director for the Town of Erie. Stefanie started with the Town in April of 2020 as Accounting Manager and has been Acting Interim Finance Director since October of 2020.
Stefanie was working in tandem with Victoria Runkle who the Town hired in a temporary position as joint Interim Finance Director and mentor. Victoria’s last day with the Town was Friday, Dec. 17 and Stefanie officially took over as Director on Monday, Dec. 20.
Stefanie joined the Town from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she worked for nearly 9 years as an Associate Director in the Campus Controller’s Office. She holds her master’s degree in accounting also from CU Boulder.
“I appreciate Victoria’s and Stefanie’s teamwork this past year and am delighted to have Stefanie assume all of the director’s responsibilities and continue innovating and enhancing the effectiveness of the Finance Department,” said Town Administrator Malcolm Fleming. “She has proven her strength and skills in this role, and I look forward to seeing where she takes the Department and the Town as we continue to grow and change.”
Stefanie will be responsible for many duties in her role as Finance Director including: managing accounting staff who maintain accounting processes and internal controls for the Town in accordance with national, state, and local regulations; overseeing budget development and administration; coordinating payroll; ensuring the Town’s reserve funds are invested safely; and coordinating the financial aspects of numerous special projects.
During her time with the Town so far Stefanie has; led her team through the 2020 audit process with great success; drafted an improved Purchasing Policy to ensure greater compliance, reduce redundancy, and ensure strong internal controls are in place; created and implemented procedures ensuring grant funds are received from granting agencies in a timely manner; and many other impressive accomplishments.
“I am so pleased with my time so far at the Town of Erie,” Stefanie says. “I hope to build a long-term career here and be a part of the strategic leadership of this organization to help it grow and become as efficient and effective as it can be.”
