Officer Introductions
The Erie Police Department is pleased to introduce you to some recent additions to the Erie Police Department. We hope you will take just a moment to get to know us a little better. And, if you happen to see Officers Steven Buboltz, Macey Milord, and Jake Ellingsworth, out in the community – be sure to say hello.
It is an honor to serve you and the entire Erie community.
Introduce yourselves and tell us what you do for the Erie Police Department
Steven: I am originally from Washington State, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Business/Marketing. I currently am an officer with the Erie Police Department where I work patrol, am a new member of the bike team, and will soon be level 1 crash certified. I was initially an agent with the Lakewood Police Department, where I completed the academy and four months of field training. I have been with the Erie Police Department for six months.
Macey: I have been an officer for approximately one and a half years. I have been with the Erie Police Department for six months.
Jake: My name is Jake Ellingsworth. I've been married to my beautiful wife, Brandy, for eleven years and together for nineteen years. We have two kids together, a fourteen-year-old daughter and a ten-year-old son. I have been a police officer for the Town of Erie since June 2020. Before joining the Erie Police Department, I was an officer for the City of Northglenn for about one year.
Why did you want to be in law enforcement?
Steven: After ten years at my previous job, I craved more. I wanted a career that would leave a positive footprint with my time spent in the workforce.
Macey: Before working in law enforcement, I started my career working at law firms. Although I still see the value in providing representation for those going through the legal process, I believed being an officer would be more fulfilling. I wanted to be there for people when an incident took place rather than strictly dealing with the aftermath. I also thought the idea of interacting with people during some of their most challenging points in life, and having to make decisions that would affect them moving forward was a meaningful task. Sometimes, officers need to take in a lot of information and construct calculated resolutions with very little time for strategic planning. Our role's pressure and responsibility is something I cherish and makes me feel like a valuable resource. I get my sense of fulfillment from serving others, which is the perfect career for those types of individuals.
Jake: Ever since the first officer walked into my grade school class, I knew that's what I wanted to be. Now that I'm here, I want to help bring justice and equality to the Town of Erie!
Tell us about an average day for you at work
Steven: An average day begins by putting on my uniform and preparing my patrol car for the day. Every day is different in Erie, but traditionally I will run traffic until dispatched to a call. An average day in Erie can vary. You never know what you are going to get!
Macey: No such thing. On days where there are no pending calls to respond to, I follow up with my open and assigned cases. However, the unpredictable nature of the job is one of the many exciting aspects.
Jake: Taking reports, patrolling neighborhoods, pulling traffic, and community policing.
When you aren't working, what do you do for fun?
Steven: I enjoy spending time with my wife and 10-month-old baby boy, hiking, biking, snowboarding, fishing, hunting, and off-roading.
Macey: I like to spend quality time with friends and family. I also enjoy having game nights, trying new restaurants, and playing ice hockey.
Jake: My family and I love camping, hiking, and four-wheeling.
What is your favorite movie? Who is your favorite musical artist?
Steven: My favorite movie is the original Captain America, and my favorite artist is Metallica.
Macey: Movies are a no-can-do. I do not have the attention span of waiting two-plus hours to find out the resolution when I can Google the information. However, I do like TV shows like House of Cards, The Office, Ozark, etc.
Jake: Favorite movie would probably be "Avengers End Game." My favorite musical artist would have to be either "Alice In Chains" or "Shinedown."
What do you enjoy most about your job in Erie?
Steven: The thing I enjoy most is how supportive everyone has been. Coming from a large department, I can truly appreciate how special this department is.
Macey: The community. The residents of Erie are knowledgeable, supportive, and vocal people. Because of this, the Town of Erie attracts officers who enjoy being held to a higher standard. I enjoy working with other disciplined, compassionate, and hard-working individuals. The residents know what they deserve and will not accept any less. I thrive from the demand to maintain their trust and live up to their expectations.
Jake: The great group of people I work with and getting to know the residents of Erie.
