Oil and Gas Regulations AdoptedOn Tuesday, November 10, the Board of Trustees adopted new oil and gas regulations as permitted by the expanded regulatory authority allowed under Senate Bill 19-181, passed in April this year. The rules, in the Town’s Unified Development Code’s Chapter 12, now require a 2,000-foot setback from homes, parks, and businesses; and O&G operations may only occur in areas zoned Heavy Industrial. The regulations also require strict air, sound, and odor quality and monitoring. Mayor Jennifer Carroll notes that “the adoption of new, prudent oil and gas regulations is a win for Erie residents and enables our community to clearly see our expectations. This landmark step is the most meaningful change Erie has ever taken to protect the residents from the negative impacts that oil and gas operations create when operated near homes, businesses, and outdoor recreation areas.” Regulations are frequently reviewed and updated. For more, visit the Oil and Gas Regulations webpage.

Thanksgiving SafetyThe kitchen is the heart of the home, especially at Thanksgiving. Mountain View Fire Rescue also wants you to know that Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment. A few simple tips include making sure smoke alarms are in working order, someone is home while a turkey is cooking, and make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. For more tips, visit the National Fire Protection Association’s webpage. And also, keep in mind the potential for COVID to spread from a large gathering and minimize the chances of that by following all social distancing, masking, hand washing and isolation (if sick don’t go) recommendations; don’t let a Thanksgiving at Grama’s be followed by a Christmas in the ICU.

CoyotesAs days shorten and weather gets colder, coyote activity increases. The animal management team offers these tips: - Monitor your pets outdoors, especially cats and smaller dogs, as coyotes may view them as a food source or perceive them as a threat to their territory.
- Accompany your pet outside as coyotes are typically wary of humans.
- If you see a coyote, make a lot of noise and haze it until it leaves.
For more information, including who to contact if you have a coyote concern, visit the Coyote webpage.
