Drought, Wildfires, and Water Supply

In spite of the snow this weekend, drought and wildfires are straining water supplies state-wide. The Public Works Department is prepared for such challenges, but have reported an increase in usage with more families at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, with the dry conditions homeowners have been watering lawns more, further increasing demand. The Town is prepared for such challenges, including dealing with the associated impacts of the wildfires resulting in spring runoff in the burned areas transporting sediment and ash into the raw water supply. The Town is also working to develop a variety of water supply projects and is equipped with state-of-the-art water treatment facilities. Learn more about water sources and quality on the water treatment webpage and discover resources to help conserve water on the water efficiency webpage.
