October 19, 2020Erie Receives Waste Diversion GrantThe Colorado Department of Health and Environment recently awarded the Town a $247,000 grant. The Front Range Waste Diversion Grant provides funds and technical assistance to Front Range communities to increase recycling, composting, and waste reduction efforts. The Town foresees upgrades to the Town’s Recycling Center, completion of Sustainability Master Plan priorities, and a robust education and outreach campaign. Ultimately, the grant will help deliver the best options for recycling and composting to residents and businesses!

Coming Soon - EV Charging StationsSpeaking of Sustainability, the team completed the first installation of a town-owned and operated electric vehicle charging station at 645 Briggs Street. This amenity is not yet activated, but coming soon! Eight parking spots are slated for the Erie Community Center and four more west of Town Hall. In mid-November, the Board of Trustees will review the implementation details. The goal is to offer 25 electric vehicle charging stations by 2025!

Utility Bill GrantsDue to the hardship caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Town is offering $100 grants to residents financially impacted by the crisis to be applied to their utility bill. EPD Warns of Sextortion ScamThe Erie Police Department is warning the public about two recent incidents in the past couple of weeks involving sextortion. Trustees Appoint New Members AED Advisory BoardDuring Tuesday’s regular Board Meeting, the Trustees passed a resolution and ordinance to establish the Airport Economic Development Advisory Board and appoint 7 members to this Advisory Board; three with professional experience in economic development and three with aviation experience. The duties of this Advisory Board include reviewing and, as necessary, proposing amendments to the Erie Municipal Airport Master Plan to help promote economic activity at the Airport. Coal Creek Disc Golf Course OpeningThe Parks and Recreation Department is excited to open the Coal Creek Disc Golf Course for the community on Friday, October 23rd! The course will officially open after a brief ceremony at 3pm. This eighteen-hole course winds through Coal Creek Open Space. Parking for the Disc Golf Course is available at the trailhead north of Erie Parkway, or at Serene or Coal Creek Park.

Hydro Turbine UpdateWork on the hydro turbine at the Lynn R. Morgan Water Treatment Facility continues to progress as scheduled, or ahead of schedule. Public Works expects the new turbine to be generating 20 percent of the facility’s electrical power by the summer of 2021.

New Striping Configuration and Signal LightsTraffic Engineers are working on the timing of the new signal light at County Line Road and Vista Parkway. Round Two - Weld County Business GrantsThe Weld County Business Recovery Program received 215 applications during its first round of grant funding. These 215 businesses represent a variety of industries including restaurants, service providers, retail, and more. National Drug Take Back DayThe National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential abuse of medications.
