Safest Cities
Earlier this month, Safewise reported their findings for the safest cities in Colorado. Safewise’s report calculates violent and property crime rates in each city and then calculates the rate of crime per capita. Erie was the only municipality in Boulder County to rank in the top 10, climbing up from #7 in 2018 to the 6th safest city in the state in 2020. For a closer look at the methodology and rankings visit Safewise’s webpage.
Erie to Boulder Trail

Seeking Input - Erie to Boulder Trail

The Town of Erie, in partnership with Boulder County and the City of Boulder, is evaluating options for the creation of a new soft-surface regional trail (known as the RTD Rail Regional Trail) connection along a rail corridor linking Erie and the City of Boulder; from County Line Road to Hwy 287. The community may participate in the virtual public meeting anytime through August 31 to view project information and provide input through comment forms and surveys. Participants who would like to provide further feedback or ask questions may attend virtual call-in Q&A sessions on August 26 and 27. View more at the boco.org/rail-trail-meeting webpage.

Briggs Street Closure

Briggs Street Closure

On August 14, the Town launched a survey to businesses, residents and property owners in the Downtown District to assess the Briggs Street closure. The results indicate that stakeholders prefer to continue to close the 500 block of Briggs (from Wells to Moffat streets) through October 2020. The closure affords restaurants the ability to expand their outdoor patio footprint to accommodate seating and occupancy limitations outlined in state guidelines.

DEI Advisory Board

DEI Advisory Board Deadline Approaching

The Town of Erie is committed to equity and inclusion and welcomes diversity. To better support this commitment, the Erie Board of Trustees is establishing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board. We are seeking applications for nine founding members of this Advisory Board representing diversity (including racial, ethnic, LGBTQ, economic background and disabilities). These founding members, with the feedback of the community, will work to shape the role and focus of the Advisory Board to be a responsive, permanent and effective advisory board of the Town of Erie. Applications are due Friday, August 21, 2020.

Fall prevention

Falls Prevention

September not only marks the start of the fall season; it also recognizes National Falls Prevention Awareness Day on September 22. Mountain View Fire Rescue is taking the opportunity to bring attention to the epidemic of falls among older adults, with a simple message, ‘most falls can be prevented’. For more information visit the Weld County webpage on aging. Tips from Mountain View Fire Rescue:

  • Walk at least 15 minutes a day to build muscle strength and improve balance.
  • Inquire with your health care provider about a falls risk assessment.
  • Have vision and hearing checked annually.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Make modifications in your home such as installing grab bars and removing throw rugs that can be tripped on.
