Crime Spree
Stolen and Trespassed Vehicles
At about 2 a.m., August 8, 2020, in the neighborhoods near County Line Road and Erie Parkway, an Erie Police Officer attempted to contact an individual on foot wearing dark clothing. The individual eluded the officer on foot. Shortly after, an assisting officer spotted an associated vehicle and initiated a stop. The vehicle eluded the officers, but was found a short time later, unoccupied, and abandoned in a field. The vehicle had been stolen out of Broomfield with license plates stolen from Longmont.
Around 7 a.m., multiple reports of trespassed vehicles, and stolen vehicles, were received. These crimes are believed to have occurred between approximately 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. It is likely that the suspects stole a vehicle in Erie, abandoned it, and stole another vehicle that has yet to be recovered.
In the two instances of vehicle theft and three instances of trespass, the vehicles were unlocked. The keys were inside the stolen vehicles. Among items taken from the unlocked vehicles were garage door openers.
This investigation is ongoing. To submit tips or, ‘out of the ordinary’ video footage between the hours of 1 – 5 a.m. please call dispatch at 303-441-4444. Please call if you believe your vehicle was trespassed.
The Erie Police Department asks residents to lock vehicles, house, windows, garage, gates and sheds. Turn on exterior lights, security cameras and alarm systems, and bring in valuables from vehicles, yards and patios. As always, if you see something ‘off’ call the Erie Police Department at 303-441-4444, or 911 during an emergency.
