SpeedingAcross the nation, neighborhoods saw a dramatic drop in traffic during the various stages of the coronavirus pandemic. Fewer motorist on the roads, highways and streets caused a surge in speeding.
Here in Erie, the Town Engineering Department has noted an increased number of concerns by residents regarding speeding. When a concern is received, the Engineering Department confers with the Police Department for an action plan. This plan often includes placement of a speed trailer, an increase in patrolling the area, and consideration is given for potential roadway improvements.
The Erie Police Department actively works with residents to ensure traffic safety in all neighborhoods. In fact, ‘Education and Enforcement for Traffic Safety’ is our #1 objective in our 2020 Strategic Plan. Our goal this year is to administer 250 directed traffic enforcement efforts (directed patrols, traffic trailer deployment, school zones, etc.)! - If you have a reoccurring traffic problem in your neighborhood which you feel needs attention, please contact the Erie Police Department at 303-441-4444. An officer may contact you requesting additional information. The officers will work with you to plan a strategy to help resolve the problem.
- The Erie Police Department enforces the laws and investigates traffic crashes. If you have questions about traffic signals, signal timing, crosswalks, lane markings, or signage please use the ErieSubmit mobile app to submit real-time, location-based information, to the Town.
- As always, if you are involved in, or observing a traffic situation which you feel is presenting a danger to yourself, or the community, please contact the police department while it is occurring by calling Dispatch at 303-441-4444.
It is our honor to serve and protect the Town of Erie. For more information visit www.erieco.gov/Police or call 303-441-4444.
