Business Grants – Awarded
The Economic Development team is pleased to announce the second round of Small Business Emergency Relief Grants extended to Erie businesses facing hardship during the current state of emergency. The Grant Review Committee unanimously approved funding 17 businesses this week, after announcing 16 grantees in the prior week. In this round, $115,000 of emergency relief will be distributed immediately leaving $75,000 for an additional round from the $300,000 earmarked for the program.

In total, 63 applications were received in the first 8 days of the program.  The next review will begin on Thursday, April 23rd. Eligible businesses must meet specific criteria, including having a sound business plan showing how they will use the grant to make it through 2020. Grant awards range from $5,000 for businesses with 2-10 employees to $10,000 for businesses with 11+ employees. Review the full criteria on the Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Program webpage.
Earth Day

Earth Day

The Sustainability Advisory Board will be hosting an online Earth Day week through Sunday, April 26. Each day, they will be highlighting action-items, or pledges, that participants can commit to in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Through social media and email, they will be asking community members to commit to making small changes in their daily lives, and to encourage their friends, family, and neighbors to do the same – while staying safe at home! Subscribe to Sustainability notifications here.

Erie youth are invited to get creative and share how “I Can Make Erie Green” through creative expression using chalk, paint, markers, crayons, etc. Completed masterpieces can be emailed to connect@erie.earth to be featured on a new Erie.Earth website debuting on Earth Day, April 22. The Sustainability Advisory Board will be awarding all participants a prize!

Arbor Day

National Arbor Day

National Arbor Day, April 24, 2020 has been a long-time, cherished tradition in the Town. It’s a day when the community comes together for the future of the Town’s urban forest. The celebration event was cancelled but there are many other ways to celebrate, including honoring the winners of the 2020 Arbor Day Poster Contest! Special recognition to Emily Dunn of Black Rock Elementary, Lanyna Galloway of Erie Elementary, and Jackson Harrington of Aspen Ridge Prepatory. The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the impacts cancelled events may have on communities nationwide and has developed ideas and resources to help families celebrate #arbordayathome.
