Since the first recorded police death in 1786, there have been more than 23,000 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. In 2021, 23,229 names were engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. In 2022, 619 names will be added to that list.
Fallen law enforcement officers represent all levels of law enforcement, including local, state, federal, tribal, and military law enforcement. They are family members, husbands, wives, parents, sons, and daughters.
Today, we honor LEOs across the nation who made the ultimate sacrifice.
