Since the beginning of the year, the Erie Police Department has responded to 14 vehicle trespass reports. Unfortunately, the most common theme is that the doors of vehicles have been left unlocked. It only takes seconds to steal items of value from a vehicle. Valuable items that have been taken from these vehicles include firearms, credit cards, purses, computers and a host of other prized possessions. Thieves also often grab cell phones, iPads, wallets, keys, personal identification documents and other small, easy-to conceal items. The Erie Police Department would like to remind residents to not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle and if possible, take them inside with you or lock them in your trunk. Remember to keep your car doors locked and park your vehicle in well-lit areas. Do NOT make it easy for a thief to steal from you!Anyone with information regarding any vehicle trespasses or any other crimes are asked to please contact the Erie Police Department at 303-926-2800. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood please call Boulder County Dispatch at 303-441-4444 for non-emergency calls, or 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
