The Town of Erie Department of Public Works has launched a new program called “Be the Squeaky Wheel” in an effort to make reporting potholes located within Erie easier for our citizens. Once a pothole is reported, Operations and Maintenance crews will strive to patch the pothole within two business days (weather permitting).
Three Easy Ways to Report a Pothole:
1. Citizen Request Tracker – Report potholes online via the Town’s website. Select Service Request from any page to be taken to the Citizen Request Tracker and then select “Public Works.” When prompted, create a profile to log in and submit a new request. Once registered, this interface can be used for reporting other non-emergency concerns and viewing pending issues.
2. Mobile iPhone app for Citizen Request Tracker – Download the Citizen Request Tracker iPhone app from the homepage of the Town’s website. Once the app is loaded, you may submit a photo of the pothole by selecting the Town of Erie from the list provided. The request is routed to the Department of Public Works to get the pothole fixed. The application automatically pinpoints and sends the exact location of the pothole. You will receive a confirmation e-mail and can view the status of your request along with comments posted by Town Staff.
3. Phone/Email - Contact our Town of Erie Public Works Department at 303-926-2872 or email Public Works with the location of the pothole, your name, phone number and email address.
Pothole Pathology: Though the Town’s streets are in very good condition, spring is when potholes are most apt to appear. Potholes can form after water penetrates cracks in the asphalt. Cold temperatures turn the water to ice which expands the cracked pavement. Vibrations from vehicular traffic can further loosen the road surface exacerbating the formation of potholes.
So go ahead. Be the squeaky wheel and report that pothole!
Weekly Drawing: Make a service request to report a pothole, between April 25 and May 27, 2011 and you will be entered into a weekly drawing. One winner will be randomly selected on Monday of each week. The winning resident will be contacted through email and may choose to pick up their prize at Town Hall or have it mailed to them.
