The Weld County Road 7 and Erie Parkway Intersection Improvements Project is moving forward after a few recent delays. The work on Erie Parkway to expand the roadway on either side of WCR 7 was delayed by underground water levels. Water was saturating the ground beneath the surface of the road and causing dips and soft spots in the newly paved roadway. After detailed investigation, there are no waterline leaks or breaks, no sewer line leaks or breaks, and no obvious culprit for the increased water levels in this area.

After testing a few solutions for the road base to remain solid, the contractor found a stable solution. New pavement was laid on Saturday, June 19 and is holding up well. The current plan is to repair any remaining soft spots on Tuesday. Traffic is tentatively scheduled to shift to the south side of the road at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Prior to removing the remining old pavement on the north, the newly paved section will have traffic on it for a day, then the Contractor will complete the north side. 

Road work on WCR 7 just north of Erie Parkway was originally delayed due to rain and muddy conditions in the area after recent storms. The work was further delayed when the Erie Parkway base issues were found. The contractor and staff determined that closing another road out of that intersection would cause too much disruption. This work is tentatively scheduled to being the week of July 4 weather and all other unforeseen issues dependent.

Ultimately, this road work will lead to wider travel lanes and a full lighted intersection to help with the flow and safety of traffic. Thank you to the public for patience during this construction phase and for traveling in a slow and cautious manner through the work zone.
