Fluoride Fact Sheet
During the September 23, 2008 Board of Trustees meeting, Director of Public Works Gary Behlen informed the Board that the application of fluoride to the Town’s treated water system will begin on October 27, 2008. The fluoride will be added to the Town’s water supply as required by the State of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment regulations.
BACKGROUND:
On April 1, 2008, the Town of Erie residents approved Ballot Question 2A: “Shall the Town of Erie be directed to add fluoride to the water the Town of Erie treats and distributes through the Erie water distribution system, in a form and manner to be determined by the Director of Public Works.”
On May 13, 2008, the Board of Trustees awarded a design/build contract for the installation and implementation of fluoride at the Water Treatment Facility. The Town indicated it would notify residents a minimum of 30 days prior to adding fluoride to the treated water system. Notices will be distributed to the public through the following communication channels: Town of Erie’s October utility statements, Town of Erie website, Media Release, Weekly E-News Updates, and Erie Government Television – Channel 8.
