NORTH WATER RECLAMATION FACILITY

Construction of the North Water Reclamation Facility (NWRF) broke ground on November 9, 2009.  The initial capacity of the NWRF will be 1.5 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) with ultimate capacity to 3.5 MGD.  This additional capacity will serve future customers including those along Highway 52 and Interstate 25.  The NWRF includes a Reuse Pump Station and one thousand acre foot reservoir to accommodate reclaimed water storage. Reclaimed water (also known as reuse water) is wastewater effluent that has been further treated and disinfected to provide a non-potable supply that is safe and suitable for uses such as landscape irrigation. The use of reclaimed water is included in the Town’s Water Conservation Plan and is seen as an environmentally responsible way to conserve scarce and expensive water supplies. This practice, successfully used in other Colorado communities, will be used to irrigate Town parks and, as per development agreement, portions of the Vista Ridge Golf Course.

Please follow this link to view photos of the NWRF construction project.

In August of 2009, the Town was awarded ARRA (American Recovery & Reinvestment Act) funding through the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority for the Erie Non-Potable Water Pump Station Project.  The Town was approved for a total of $3,534,700: including an ARRA loan in the amount of $2,000,000 at 0% interest for a term of 20 years, and a base program loan of $1,534,700 at an interest rate of 2% for 20 years.  The Town’s total savings from obtaining these favorable interest rates are in excess of $1.6 million for the 20 years.  The net present value of this savings is $1,000,000.
