Water Conservation Program

Our Goal

It is the Town of Erie’s goal to actively manage the water situation, to provide our customers with high quality water and excellent service, to advise the Board of Trustees when conditions warrant, and to be stewards for water-wise practices.

Implementation of Water Conservation Program

The Town has intentionally developed a diverse water portfolio in order to provide enough flexibility to meet customer demands under most conditions.  We continually monitor and adjust water rights, leases, and deliveries to meet the anticipated demands.  Moreover, we continually monitor and adjust our operations and procedures to manage the demands.

When certain "trigger" conditions are reached, we will react in kind to implement planned, water reduction actions (water conservation action levels).

Current Program Level - Voluntary Level 1

The Town of Erie is currently under a voluntary water conservation program.  Erie residents are asked to voluntarily comply with Action Level 1 of the Town's Water Conservation Program, which calls for twice-weekly lawn watering.

Under Action Level 1, residents with even-numbered addresses are asked to water on Sunday and Thursday.  Residents with odd numbered addresses are asked to water on Wednesday and Satruday.  Lawn watering is recommended between 7:00pm and 7:00am.  For example, if your watering day is Thursday, please water between 7:00pm on Thursday and 7:00am on Friday.

Water Conservation Plan

Throughout Colorado the competition and expense for water supplies is increasing while the availability of water is decreasing. The Town of Erie is among many communities in the Front Range that anticipate significant growth and increases in water supply needs. With water conservation goals in mind, The Board of Trustees approved a Water Conservation Plan which was submitted to and approved by the State of Colorado in March 2008.

One way to help reduce water supply expenses and be a steward of the states valuable resource is to conserve water. As the cost of water rises, the economic benefits associated with conservation will increase. Conservation is an important component of Erie’s water management strategy.

The Erie Water Conservation Plan provides guidance for effective water conservation while controlling implementation costs. The Plan evaluates Erie’s water demands and supplies, defines goals specific to the conservation program, and evaluates and selects conservation measures/programs for implementation.
