The mission of the department is to help citizens create an increasingly better, more healthful, effective and attractive community that Erie citizens are proud to call home. The staff will strive to protect our natural resources and provide quality planning and building services that are vital for Erie's future growth. We will work in partnership with our co-workers, citizens and neighboring jurisdictions.
The Community Development Department consists of two main administrative divisions: the Planning Division and the Building Division. The Director of Community Development administers a professional planning staff consisting of an administrative secretary, two senior planners (AICP) and one part-time contract planner. The director also administers the building division consisting of the chief building official, two building inspectors (one inspector also serves as the code enforcement officer for related development and building code violations) and a building permit technician.
Land Use Development Application Review
The Community Development Department is responsible for reviewing all land use development applications from annexations through final plat, setting, noticing and providing staff support for public hearings and review of development applications. Staff provides information to the public regarding zoning, the land use review process, setback requirements, flood plain status and allowable uses. The department is also responsible for the administration and updating of the Town of Erie Comprehensive Master Plan
, Unified Development Code
and other related regulations.
Staff provides assistance to all departments and the town administrator and provides services to the Board of Trustees, Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment and the Parks, Open Space and Trails Advisory Commission. They also serve on neighboring jurisdictional committees for joint planning projects.
